By default in iTerm 2, it's a pain to skip between words. Here's how you can configure iTerm 2 on OSX to allow you to use ⌥ ← and ⌥→ to do just that. First you need to set your left ⌥ key to act as an escape character.

Rule #7: No Political Posts. Hey all, I'm a neteng that's been using Macs for the past 6 years to do my work. One of my most valuable tools is iTerm2. My new job only Windows machines and iTerm2 only for OSX. I've tried about 15-20 different console/terminal/ssh tools for Windows and have yet to find something that does what iTerm2 does.

I'm looking for the following features: • Profiles • Tabs • Buffer Search • Triggers (RegEx color highlighting) For the triggers in iTerm2, I had two different profiles that I would copy. One that had RegEx triggers for Cisco ASA/IOS and another for JunOS.

It's amazing how much time it saves and how desperate I am to get it back on Windows!! I found SecureCRT can do keyword and RegEx highlights but will not allow look aheads/behinds or anything to do with spaces nor do they plan on implementing the feature in the future.

So this what SecureCRT can do vs iTerm2: **username** admin1 secret QEWE.ke8&23kj privilege 15 username **admin1** secret QEWE.ke8&23kj privilege 15 While helpful, I want to see the variable, not the static command. I know I'm not the only one out there that does this. One of you smart mother f@#$ers has got to know a program to do this on Windows!! Thanks so much in advance!!

EDIT: For those that asked here and over PM, here's a link to screenshots of my iTerm2 trigger settings for both Cisco ASA/IOS and JunOS: Cisco: JunOS: NOTE: The JunOS triggers are based on ease of reading using 'run show config| display set' ala Cisco style rather than that horrid bracket indent default 'show config' JunOS style. Also, the Cisco setup is not separated for ASA and IOS. I put all the triggers for both in a single profile and just copy that profile for each device. Be warned, though!!!
